Catching my own dreams

My story is about how I made the choice to choose what I love to do in life and how I no longer let others choose for me.

Ever since I was little, my mother has always told me what I was going to do when I got older.  She wanted me to be a singer and an actor and thought that I was going to follow the dream that she no longer could follow herself. She would always play her favorite music around me and let me watch movies that had great acting. I always had to be in a play at school or church. I was supposed to be her dream catcher. But now that I am older, I have chosen to follow my own dreams and that is to be a writer and a great cook. Yes, I still sing and yes, I may do some acting, but this is my life and not my mother’s. I made that choice over three years ago, and now I go to a great art school that lets me sing and act for fun, but also advance my writing skills so I can become a great author. I have even started baking more often in my free time, and I am doing very well.

Even though I had to stand up to my mother and knock down her dreams for me, I also had to stand up to myself and take my life into my own hand. If i didn’t do it then, then when would I do it? Me and my mother now have an understanding when it comes to my life wishes. She may not like my choice, but she is supporting my decision.

Never let someone take your future into their hands, you have to take it and plan for yourself. I did it and so far I’m doing great. I just have to work hard in order for it to happen because if I don’t then how will I accomplish my dreams?
