What’s up? My name is Sam. I’m a 19 year old freshman in college. I live in Iowa, and this is how I faced my problems with depression.
I used to have a serious problem with depression and self-harm. Now, I’m not telling you it’s ok or a good idea to experiment with these because it’s NOT! I went to several therapists, and we talked about how to overcome these problems, but nothing seemed to work.
So, I was sent to a treatment facility. A treatment facility is a place where people with all kinds of issues get help from professionals. It was the best and worst experience of my life. It was the worst because it was REALLY hard for me to go through it, and I was very skeptical I’d get cured. But, it was the best because I overcame my issues. While it was hard for me, I had the love and support of all of my friends and family back home, as well as those I made at the facility. In just under a year, I was cured and released.
Most importantly, the message I want to leave with you all is that self-harm and suicide is NOT the answer. You may feel like you’ve hit rock bottom, but the good news is that life can only get better. And there are many people you can go to for help. Talk to a friend, family member, teacher, whomever. There are also many other resources. A couple good ones are http://suicidehotlines.com/ and 1-800-273-TALK begin_of_the_skype_highlighting 1-800-273-TALK end_of_the_skype_highlighting. These are all free and confidential ways to seek help with your feelings (meaning they won’t tell anyone else, like a secret). I am confident that you too can beat whatever problems you are facing.
