    nervous virgin...

Hi I'm a 17 year old wanting to have sex with my boyfriend this weekend but there is a problem.. I'm super nervous. I feel as though I am ready to lose my virginity but I don't want it to hurt. I am uncomfortable with my body. I talked to my boy friend about me being uncomfortable with my body already and he made me feel a bit better about it. the thing is I still am worried about the pain I could feel and how I can feel more positive about my body. PLEASE HELP!! I'm in desperate need.....

Welcome to ReachOut al8129! We're all so glad to have you join us here!

It sounds like you are thinking about having sex for the first time, and feeling nervous. It's totally not uncommon to feel nervous! I can at least speak for myself and say that I was really nervous. There's a lot to think about, and with so many myths out there, it can be confusing. I'm glad that you're here talking with us, and looking to educate yourself as well. Asking questions is a smart thing to do!

While some people may feel some discomfort, sex is something that can and should be pleasurable for both you and your partner. Talking about it is so helpful. Let each other know what you like, what you don't like, and just keep that line of communication open. It can really make it all so much better. If you feel some pain or discomfort, try using more lube, changing positions, or slowing down. I've included some great resources below that I think you'll find helpful to read over!

I'm glad to hear that you and your boyfriend can talk about things, and in talking with him has made you feel a bit better. With all of the media out there telling us what we should look like, and the ever changing image of a perceived perfection, it can be difficult to form a good body image. Self-acceptance is something that takes time, but can be achieved through being kind to yourself and the way you talk about yourself and surrounding yourself with people who make you feel good about the beautiful person that you truly are!

    We're all here for you!
