    Keeps getting worse

My fiancé left me three weeks ago and since then my anxiety and depression has had me sinking deeper everyday. I can't sleep because when I do I have nightmares and night terrors. I end up waking up looking for my fiancé and when I realize he isn't there I burst out crying. I have grown to hate myself and I hate how I feel. I would like to feel normal again. But part of me thinks this might be the new normal. I just wish he would talk to me.

    Hello Elfrey,

Goodness, I am so sorry for the heartbreak that you are feeling right now. Do you have a trusted friend or family member that you can open up with at this time? It can be so helpful to talk with someone, and just have that support.

Another thing you can do if you need to talk, is call the helpline Your Life Your Voice at 1-800-448-3000. They're so helpful, free to call, and confidential too! You can call them any time of the day or night with their 24/7 availability! For more information on this and other ways to contact them, you can visit their page via THIS link.

Have you considered keeping an uplifting or motivational book by your bedside for those times when you wake up from the nightmares? How about trying some calming activities before bed. Things like night time meditation, yoga, deep breathing, and listening to relaxing music may help. Some people find writing, taking walks, learning a new skill (art, music, sport, etc.) to be really helpful tools for coping.

It's OK to give yourself time to process these feelings. I know it may not seem like it right now, but your heart can and will heal. We're all here for you!
Note: The ReachOut Forums will be suspended after December 31, 2015. All existing threads and posts will still be available to read and review, but no new posts will appear. We hope to gain new funding, and be back soon, but in the meantime, here are some places where you can keep talking and get support:

    -- Your Life Your Voice
    -- Ok2Talk
-- American Foundation for Suicide Prevention
-- Trevor Project Trevorspace for LGBTQIA youth
    -- ReachOut Australia forums

Have you tried to contact him? You shouldn't wait for him to be the one to talk to you. Your circumstances are very hard right now, but I don't believe that is going to be the new normal, as long as you don't allow it. You do not need to allow yourself to feel that way. It does get better. Maybe not immediately, it will take some time. Eventually though, it will improve. You just got to find help. Trying talking to someone you trust about your nightmares and how you feel about yourself. It will help you. I really do hope that things look up for you soon.
