Self-harm:
If this is something you are dealing with, we are here to tell you that you can get help, and with time and support you can begin to let go of self-harming and feel better. Because you are reading this here on the forums, you are a person who is curious and capable of getting help

Self harm can be a way to cope with strong feelings or the sense of numbness or emptiness that overwhelming feelings can cause. It might express your anger, sadness, grief or emotional pain or might be a way you indirectly signal to others that you want support. It might be a way you remind yourself that you can still feel, or give you a sense of control. Every one has a unique reason they use self harm to cope, and every reason is important to pay attention to.

Deliberate self harm can bring an immediate sense of relief, but the relief will only be temporary. It can cause permanent damage to your body, and like many habits, the sense of relief may last for less time as the body grows accustomed to the sensations. Using self harm to cope might be like a heavy secret that you feel you have to keep from others.

At first you might find you will continue to use self harm to cope. That’s ok, but make sure to stay safe and reach out for help immediately if you are in any danger. You might find you just want to consider how to stop or slow down, but not yet be ready to stop altogether. This forum is a safe place to talk to talk about your feelings that are creating the urges.
